About

Dave Hamblett is a drummer, educator and photographer based in Stroud.

Current projects include Dominie Hooper, Snowpoet, The Magic Lantern, Seafarers, Elchin Shirinov and Wanderland.

After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music, Hamblett fast became one of the UK’s most in-demand young musicians. He has performed with a huge range of artists such as Kenny Wheeler, George Garzone, Julian Arguelles, Abram Wilson, Josienne Clarke, and Ivo Neame to name a few.

In addition to his extensive touring and recording work as a sideman across various genres, Hamblett is an accomplished bandleader and composer in his own right. In 2013 he released his debut album on Whirlwind Recordings to wide critical acclaim, garnering glowing reviews from the Guardian, the Evening Standard, the Irish Times and Jazzwise as well as radio play on BBC Radio 3, Jazz FM and BBC Radio Scotland.

Hamblett has performed throughout the UK and Europe. He appears on dozens of albums on labels including Edition Records, Whirlwind Recordings, Roughtrade, Ropeadope, Jellymould and Ubuntu.

Alongside his performing career, Hamblett has a wealth of experience as an educator. He has taught at King’s College London, ICMP London and is currently a Principal Lecturer at Leeds Conservatoire. In addition, he has been an associate examiner at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He has an LRAM teaching diploma from the Royal Academy of Music. In 2022 he was made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.

Alongside his work in Music, Dave also works as a photographer. His photos have featured in publications including The Idler Magazine, Italy Segreta, The Kentish Towner and Jazzwise as well as album covers and promotional photographs for many musicians.
